Southold Historical Society and Peconic Landing present: Ilya and Emilia Kabakov: Enter Here - A Documentary Film by Amei Wallach. A film screening and discussion with Amei Wallach
North Fork resident Amei Wallach was chief art critic for Newsday, an on-air art essayist on the MacNeil/Lehrer Newshour and has written for The New York Times, The Nation, The Wall Street Journal and Vanity Fair. She will screen and be available to discuss her latest film: Ilya and Emilia Kabakov: Enter Here. Eighty year old Soviet born celebrated conceptual artist Ilya and his wife and partner Emilia are also North Fork residents.
Opening to rave reviews, Amei’s work “has the sweep of a Russian novel and the immediacy of a family drama. It probes art’s ability to transcend oppression and exile”. Two decades after he fled the Soviet Union, Ilya Kabakov overcomes his fears to install six walkthrough installations in venues throughout Moscow where he was once forbidden to exhibit his work.
