ABOUT ABOUT

North Fork Audubon avian naturalist and visitor center coordinator / docent at the Nature Conservancy’s Mashomack Preserve in Shelter Island, Tom Damiani will talk about what birds are likely to make their home at Peconic Landing and the North Fork.  Did you know that some birds nest in holes in trees and other places? It's also interesting how birds have evolved and can be found nesting from on the ground all the way up to hundreds of feet in the air. Tom will focus on the cavity nesters, those birds that prefer to lay their eggs in holes rather than in an open nest. A few of these birds make their own cavities and some simply use an old hole made by another bird or a natural cavity.
